Ronggowarsito Sufi Universe

Ronggowarsito's messages are pulsating to this day. His narrative of chaotic times, crazy times, is very relevant to see the confusion of people today.

Raden Ngabehi Ronggowarsito was born with the first name Raden Bagus Burhan. He is the son of the couple RM. Ngabehi Pajangsworo and Nyai Ajeng Ronggowarsito. Raden Bagus Burhan was born on March 14, 1802, which coincided with the death of his great-grandfather, namely Yasadipura I.

Raden Bagus Burhan grew up in a family that loved science. His father, RM Ng. Pajangsworo, or Ronggowarsito II, was the royal clerk. Meanwhile, his grandfather, Sastronagoro (Ronggowarsito I) was a famous royal poet. The blood of poets also flows from his great-grandfather, Yasadipura I, who was a great poet of his time. The title of Ronggowarsito III (Raden Ngabehi Ronggowarsito) was obtained by Raden Bagus Burhan from the King, which was in accordance with his position as Kliwon Carik at the Surakarta Palace. Since childhood, Raden Bagus Burhan recited the Koran to Kiai Hasan Besari, at the Gebang Tinatar Islamic boarding school in the Ponorogo area.

From the mother's path, Raden Bagus Burhan also flows strong literary blood. His mother was a descendant of Sujonopuro, who was known as Prince Karanggayam, the poet of Pajang. The work in the form of Serat Niti Suri, was born from the expertise and depth of knowledge of Prince Karanggayam.

Literary blood and royal blue blood flow in Raden Ngabehi Ronggowarsito. The lineage is connected with the Majapahit kingdom (via Brawijaya and Andayaningrat/daughter of Majapahit), the Demak kingdom (through Raden Teja, the son of Raden Patah), and the Pajang kingdom (from the lineage of Prince Mas/Panembahan Raden, the son of Prince Benawa, son of Sultan Hadiwijaya). It is clear that the three genealogies of the great Kings in the Land of Java, made Raden Bagus Burhan a broad brotherhood.

According to the researcher, Karnoko Parta Kusuma, Ronggowarsito's works number more than 50 essays. Among them: Hidayat Jati Letter, Aji Pamasa Letter, Candrarini Letter, Cemporet Letter, Jaka Lodang Letter, Jayengbaya Letter, Kalathida Letter, Panitisastra Letter, Pandji Jayengbaya Letter, Suluk Saloka Jiwa, Paramayoga Letter, and several other works.

Ronggowarsito conveys Sufi values in several important works: Serat Hidayat Jati, Suluk Jiwa (Suluk Saloka Jiwa), Serat Pamoring Kawulo Gusti, and Suluk Lukma Lelana.

Suluk Saloka Jiwa, once published by Albert Rusche printing in Surakarta, in 1915. This suluk, tells the story of Lord Vishnu who disguised himself as a figure named Sulaiman. Ronggowarsito narrates that Sulaiman went to Turkey to study Sufism. This suluk discusses the enlightened teachings of the saints about existence and about the beginning of creation, as well as the three types of palaces. Suluk Saloka Jiwa, presents more detailed values from Suluk Wirid Hidayat Jati, with questions and answers with a lot of eloquence.

Serat Pamoring Kawulo Gusti, tells the story of zikr and contemplation to attain the status of a servant who is close to Allah SWT. In this letter, the main teachings of Wirid Hidayat Jati are also explained. That, human beings are composed of seven human dignity: jasad (body), budi (mind), nafsu (soul), ruh (suksma), sir (secret), nur, and hayu (life).

Meanwhile, Suluk Sukma Lelana explains about noble character. This suluk also tells about the sacrifice of Imam Ali Zain al-Abidin Ibn Husain. In this suluk, the journey of a santri named Suluk Lelana is told. The purpose of his long journey, to learn the science of sanging-paran (divinity) from a spiritual teacher named Sheikh Imam Suci in Arga Sinai. The stories in this suluk symbolize the journey of man towards God.

Raden Bagus' monumental work, Serat Hidayat Jati, is the essence of makrifat science taught by the Javanese guardians. This fiber, taken in the form of jarwa (prose). Its contents include, important values: (1) ceremonies and serving equipment that must be held by teachers who will teach mystical knowledge, (2) teachings about God and the relationship between Essence, nature, asthma and af'al God, (3) Description about the ideals of unity between man and God, (4) the way to achieve the unseen appreciation, (5) the level of unseen appreciation and the temptations that become challenges, (6) the creation of humans and their essence, (7) noble values.

An important message from Ronggowarsito, until now is still very relevant: Amenangi crazy times, if you don't participate in it, the husband will be stupid, you will end up wrong. how hard it is, follow the madness, you can't stand it, if you don't follow it, you won't get it, eventually you can starve, it's God's will, how easy it is to live a distorted life, it's happier to live with awareness and vigilance, Ronggowarsito, Serat Kalatidha). Ronggowarsito teaches about spiritual depth, with the typical values of the Javanese tradition as a reference.
