Sufi Message of Shaykh Soleh Darat

Sufi Message of Shaykh Soleh Darat

Shaykh Muhammad Salih bin 'Umar as-Samarani, known as Mbah Soleh Darat. He is the main scholar, punjer of the land of Java. Mbah Soleh was born in Jepara and died in Darat, a coastal village in Semarang. From Mbah Soleh's upbringing, there were kiai who became Islamic networks in Java and the archipelago, namely Shaykh Hasyim Asy'ari, Kiai Ahmad Dahlan, Kiai Mahfudh (Tremas), Kiai Amir (Pekalongan), Kiai Idris (Surakarta) and the Raden brothers. Ajeng Kartini and Raden Sosrokartono.

In the Sufi principle, as compiled by Shaykh Ibn 'Athaillah as-Sakandari (1250-1309), that the signs of people who enter relying on their deeds are the lack of hope (of Allah's mercy), when mistakes / sins occur. Min 'alamatil I'timadi 'ala al-'amal, nuqshonu ar-raja 'inda wujuudi al-zalal.

According to Mbah Soleh Darat, the science of tariqah is to implement the Sharia correctly both outwardly and inwardly. The obvious way is to avoid halal-haram things in the environment as well as the food consumed. Meanwhile, the inner way is with azimah, earnestly hoping, by means of riyadlah or doing spiritual efforts to curb lust and draw closer to Allah SWT.

In Mbah Soleh Darat's description, riyadhah can be done in several ways. Namely: (1) resistant to literacy (slight sleep), (2) resistant to hunger, (3) resistant to silence, (4) resistant to being separated from humans. In Mbah Soleh Darat's message, staying literate is an effort to get a little sleep, so you can use the time you have to remember while praying to Allah. When awake and not sleeping, it is a gift that brings people closer to their Creator.

Meanwhile, being hungry will make it easier for people to absorb the knowledge and light of God's wisdom. By fasting regularly, people will be able to restrain their lust. Then, keeping silent can be interpreted as an effort to shorten unnecessary conversations. Talking too much about unnecessary things will make people slip into mistakes and quarrels. Enduring separation from humans, or so-called seclusion, is an effort to quiet the mind and refresh the soul, while devotedly worshiping Allah.

Mbah Soleh Darat said that there are two ways for people to receive their tariqah, namely riyadhah and wara'. According to Mbah Soleh, there are four things wara'. Namely, wara' al-adl, wara' as-shalihin, wara' al-muttaqin, and wara' as-shiddiqin.

Mbah Soleh Darat's explanation of tariqah, sourced from his work, Minhajul Atqiya' fi Syarhil Ma'rifatil Adzkiya' ila Thariqatil Auliya. In this book, Mbah Soleh explains about Sufism, tariqah and human spiritual ascent. By understanding tariqah, as a path to God, people will be able to perfect their religion, which starts from the process of faith and Islam. Of course, a Sufi traveler must go through the stages of sharia, as the basis of his worship and mu'amalah (Munawir Aziz).
