The Prophet and the Hungry Stomach
The Prophet and the Hungry Stomach
Isha' that night lined up neatly behind the Prophet Muhammad's companions, including Umar Bin Khattab. But there was something unusual about the congregational prayer, there was the sound of the bones rubbing together, until there were heartbreaking sounds; crackle, crackle, crackle when bowing and prostration from the front, the direction of the imam, the direction of Kanjeng Prophet Muhammad.
After the prayer, the companions looked at each other, from the look in their eyes as if they had the same feeling; The Prophet was sick. So, after the prayer, they gathered around the Prophet. Umar then ventured to ask him; O Prophet, are you sick?
"No" answered the Prophet.
Once again Umar asked; O Prophet, are you sick?
"No" said the Prophet.
But O Messenger of Allah, Umar continued, during the prayer we heard the sound of joints rubbing against each other from your body.
"No, I'm not sick" the Prophet assured
The Companions and including Umar kept on making sure the Prophet was in good health by asking him how he was, but the answer that came out of the Prophet remained the same; no, he's not sick. The Companions did not despair, they kept asking the Prophet whether he was sick or not, because their ears had witnessed the sound of bones rattling when the Prophet moved his body during the prayer earlier. They were very worried that something would happen to the Prophet, to the Prophet, whom they loved.
Desperate by the friend's endless questions, finally, in a very forced situation, the Prophet wanted to "confess" by taking off his shirt. The Prophet slowly opened the cloth that wrapped his stomach. And the companions saw that there were small stones in the cloth. Umar suddenly asked:
"O Prophet, why did you wrap your stomach with stones?"
"I'm hungry, and I have nothing to eat"
With a voice shaking because of sadness, Umar said: O Messenger of Allah, are you looking at us with such contempt? Do you think that if you say you are hungry, we will not give you the most delicious food. O Messenger of Allah, Umar lowered his voice again, all of us, O Messenger of Allah, your friends, live in prosperity.
"No Umar" The Prophet answered Umar's successive questions "because I know that you will not only give me delicious food, but also your wealth and even your life for me as a sense of love. But Umar, how will I face God and how will I hide my shame, if as a leader I am only a burden to the people I lead.
Hearing the prophet's answer, Umar and his companions were silent, all kinds of love given to the lord of the Prophet Muhammad was in place. It is appropriate, and that is why the treatise he brought has reached us to this day. His noble character.
With all the power he had as a head of state, commander in chief, holder of religious authority, the Prophet Muhammad only uttered one word to fill his stomach with delicious food. And what you want will definitely be available. But no, Prophet Muhammad did not do that.
Prophet Muhammad is teaching us how to fast, imsak, to hold back the "lust" of self. The great prophet taught how to refrain from taking anything from the power he had just for his own sake. The Prophet taught about how to fast beautifully, which is to refrain from taking advantage of what is his mandate only for his survival.
Greetings to you, O Messenger of Allah. We always say "we love you", but O Messenger of Allah, we are still limping to be able to truly love by following your morals.
