The Story of the Prophet's First Love

The Story of the Prophet's First Love

Like a normal human being, Prophet Muhammad SAW also once fell in love and had his heart broken. That happened when he was young. First love. But it was not Siti Khadijah who became his first love, but a girl from the Quraish tribe named Fakhitah. Who is that girl?

At that time the uncle and protector of the prophet's most persistent, Abu Talib, had three sons and several daughters. Some were the same age and became the prophet's playmates such as the son of the elder Abu Talib named Talib, fourteen year old Aqil and younger Ja'far. The Prophet enjoyed playing with them, plus they were also intelligent individuals.

Among the children of Abu Talib there is one that caught the attention of the prophet. She is the fourth daughter of Abu Talib whose name is Fakhitah ibn Abu Talib or who is often called Umm Hani'. A feeling of love grew between the two of them.

Young Muhammad also met his uncle. He was sure that this feeling of love was not a joke. He also wanted to convince Abu Talib to immediately marry the two of them. After all, the two of them had also reached the age of marriage. However, Abu Talib already had other plans.

If only Muhammad had come sooner to meet Abu Talib, it might have been a different story. Apparently, before Muhammad came to meet his uncle, Umm Hani' had been proposed by someone. The man also had special abilities in the eyes of Abu Talib and seemed to love his favorite daughter.

The man's name was Hubayroh, the son of Abu Talib's mother, who came from Bani Makhzum. He himself was not only a rich man, but also knowledgeable, wise and also a talented poet, just like Abu Talib himself. In addition, the power of the Makhzum in Mecca increased along with the decline in the power of the Bani Hashim.

"My uncle," said the prophet, "why don't you marry him to me?" he asked, softly.

When his nephew approached again, Abu Talib just smiled and replied, "They have given up their daughter for us to marry."

The word refers to the prophet's own mother, Aminah ibn Wahab, who was also a girl from the same tribe as Hubayroh.

"So, a good man should return the same kindness with what they have given us," added Abu Talib.

Finally, to the man Umm Hani' was married. And the prophet accepted it graciously. He realized that Umm Hani' was not destined by Allah to be with him. In fact, the prophet prayed for the happiness of both of them.

Soon, he will find a strong woman who he loves very much. A true love. And true love is named Khadijah.
