The Story of the Sacred Goat Kiai Idris Kamali

The Story of the Sacred Goat Kiai Idris Kamali

Kiai Idris Kamali has a unique story. Once upon a time, an unknown resident had stolen a goat. The goat is fat and he is eager to steal it. After successfully stealing, the goat is cooked. But strangely, after being boiled for hours, the mutton never cooked. The red and blood color of the flesh was still clearly visible. Even until the water in the pot is almost gone, it's still not cooked.

Finally he found out why. Then someone said that the goat belonged to Kiai Idris Kamali. Suddenly, the thief was nervous, then he went to him in Tebuireng and apologized.

Not infrequently, Kiai Idris's goats form a group and then go for a walk. Not only out of the village but across the city. Pondok alumni often encounter Kiai Idris' goats in Pare and Kediri. After being traced, it turned out that the herd of sheep was riding a train that sometimes did stop in front of the hut. When they arrive outside the city, the alumni usually fire the goat to Kiai Idris.

"Kyai, the goat is playing around outside this city," joked someone who delivered it.

"Leave it alone, maybe my goats are looking for a partner to marry," Kiai Idris replied casually.

Not only that, it is common to hear stories about the sacredness of Kiai Idris Kamali's other goats. Among them, experienced by vegetable sellers at the Cukir Market. One time, as usual, the big goat was just released and went to the market. Arriving at the market, the goats ate the vegetables sold at will.

A merchant did not accept, he was angry and berated the goat. Meanwhile, there are other traders who let their vegetables be eaten by Kiai Idris' goats. Miraculously, the merchant who did not accept it all day did not sell his wares. Whole as he brought from the fields.

Meanwhile, the other trader who feeds Kiai Idrsi's goats with the vegetables he trades has doubled his profits. Many people bought his merchandise and ran out. After this incident, the sellers at Pasar Cukir always invited Kiai Idris' goats to eat his wares because they were believed to bring blessings.

To take care of the goats, some students are instructed to buy special food and store it in a special place. By late afternoon, the junior students were very happy to bathe the goats at the river in front of the cottage. Seeing many students bathing, Kiai Idris always provided cakes and snacks for them. He also prepared cigarettes (made from kawung leaves) for the elderly in return for his gratitude.

KH Mustofa Mukhtar Brebes is one of the students assigned to take care of Kiai Idris Kamali's goat. He told me that one day after dhuhur, Kiai Idris's female goat gave birth. Not just one tail, but three children at once. With pleasure, he reported to Kiai Idris.

"Kiai, the goats gave birth to three tails!"

"How come only three, four like that!" said Kiai Idris spontaneously.

The student was surprised, giving birth to three at once was already miraculous, Kiai Idris even asked for four. And subhanallah, after Ashar Salat, the goat gave birth to another one. So the total is four, exactly what the teacher wanted.

Although he raises a lot of goats, Kiai Idris is never stingy with his students. If there is a complete book that is studied, he orders the slaughter of the goat. Or if any of his goats was hit on the road and almost died then he immediately ordered to slaughter it. The meat is eaten with the students. If it is like this, the students are very happy, they call it the term 'majoran'.

In its history, Kiai Idris Kamali was born in Makkah in 1887 and died in Kempek Cirebon in 1987. His father Kiai Kamali was the son of Kiai Abdul Jalil Kedongdong Cirebon. He only has one son from his marriage with Nyai Azzah Hasyim, Gus Abdul Haq.

It is from this scientific dedication and spiritual sincerity that many students of the son-in-law of Hadratus Shaykh KH M Hasyim Asy'ari have become great scholars and national figures. Among the figures who have recited sorogan to him are Prof. Dr. KH Talhah Hasan, (late) Prof. Dr. KH Ali Mustofa Yaqub, KH Ma'ruf Amin, Prof. Dr. KH Said Aqil Siradj, Prof. Dr. Djamaluddin Miri, KH Abdul Hayyie M Naim, etc.

In 2010, KH Salahuddin Wahid (Gus Sholah) entrusted the author to compose a biography of Kiai Idris Kamali by meeting his students (the book was published by Pustaka Tebuireng with the title "Big Figure Behind the Scenes" ). On average, Kiai Idris's students said the same thing about Kiai Idris's wisdom and the "sacred" goat. If the goat alone has sacred, then what about the owner? Wallahu a'lam.
