A Concocter of Badr War Tactics: Al-Khabab bin Al-Mundzir

A Concocter of Badr War Tactics: Al-Khabab bin Al-Mundzir

When the morning dawned and the sun began to show its light, several Muslim troops prepared themselves to go into battle against the Quraysh infidels who had been wronging them.

There was absolutely no fear on their faces. Being a martyr in war at that time was what every Muslim really wanted.

The troops were led directly by Rasulullah SAW. with his beloved friends. Starting from Abu Bakr, Umar, Ali and several other friends. They are the companions mentioned in the Al-Quran as As-Sabiqunal Awwalun who have received a special ration by Allah to His heaven.

The troops were actually prepared to stop the pace of the Quraysh trade caravan led by Abu Sufyan. However, it turned out that Abu Sufyan's trade caravan preferred a detour route so as not to encounter Islamic forces.

Rasulullah also directed his troops to the hill of Badr. A hill near the city of Medina. But unfortunately, there were still some troops who advised the Apostle to stay with Abu Sufyan's trade caravan alone. Until a warning came from Allah:

"And (remember), when Allah promised you that one of the two groups (that you face) is for you, while you want that the one who does not have the power of weapons is for you, and Allah wants to justify the truth with His verses and exterminate the disbelievers . "

So much so that they agreed to keep going to the spring of Badr and ignore the Quraysh trade caravan led by Abu Sufyan.

Upon arrival at the Badr spring, Rasulullah ordered his troops to find the right position as their defensive post. The Prophet then made the valley of Badr their defensive post. Namely to be precise at the first well they passed.

However, a brave warrior man came to Rasulullah SAW. It seems that this man already has other plans besides the plan that has been decided by the Prophet.

The man's name was al-Khabab bin al-Mundzir. He carefully asked the Messenger. He did not want to be a friend who objected to the orders and orders of the Messenger of God.

"O Messenger of God. forgive me if I am too insolent to ask you. O Messenger, is this place a place revealed by Allah SWT. to you so that you cannot reject it or is this place just your personal opinion which is part and parcel of war?"

Rasulullah SAW. then answered:

"No, Khabab, this is just my opinion. This is not a revelation from Allah SWT."

"If that's true, can I have an opinion, O Messenger?"

This man then continued his questions in a calm and careful manner. He was afraid that his opinion would hurt the Apostle's feelings or maybe he would not accept it.

"O Messenger of Allah, in my opinion, this place is not a good place. We should be closer to the water source. Let's take the troops to the water source. After we control the water source, we close the water source. After that we have to make a pond which we fill with water from that source. This position will greatly benefit our troops, because our water supply can be guaranteed while they cannot. So they will be thirsty because they run out of water supplies.”

Khabab's proposal was highly appreciated by the Prophet. Without thinking long, Rasulullah then ordered his team according to Khabab's instructions and opinion.

And finally Khabab's tactic worked. Muslim troops get enough water supplies during the war. While the Quraysh infidels were thirsty and hungry because the water source had been closed.
