The phenomenal thoughts and works of Imam Syafi'i throughout the ages
Imam Shafi'i is known as a scholar who masters almost all scientific disciplines, but he is better known as an expert on hadith and law because the core of his thoughts is focused on these two branches of knowledge, his great defense of the sunnah of the Prophet so that he is called Nas i ru Sunnah (Defender of the Prophet 's Sunnah ) . ).
In his view, the sunnah of the Prophet has a very high position, in fact some say that Imam Syafi'i equates the position of sunnah with the Koran in relation to being a source of Islamic law, therefore, according to him every law stipulated by the Prophet Muhammad. In essence, it is the result of the understanding that the Prophet obtained from his understanding of the Al-Quran.
In addition to the two sources (Al-Quran and Hadith), in taking a legal ruling, Imam Syafi'i also used Ijma', Qiyas and istidlal (reasoning) as the basis of Islamic law and also Qaul sahaba t , whereas, other sources of ijtihad used as a supporting source, such as istishhab and 'urf . As for sources of ijtihad such as istihsan , maslahatul mursalah, saddu 'dzari'ah and syar'u man qablana are accepted within minimal limits that are understood according to one's understanding and understanding.
In relation to bid'ah, Imam Shafi'i believes that bid'ah is divided into two types, namely commendable bid'ah and misguided bid'ah, it is said to be commendable if the bid'ah is in accordance with the principles of the Qur'an and the Sunnah and vice versa. In the matter of taqlid, he always pays attention to his students so that they do not simply accept the opinions of his opinions and the results of his ijtihad, he is not happy that his students blindly take taqlid to his opinions and ijtihad, on the contrary, he tells them to be critical and careful in accepting an opinion, as the expression he said "This is my ijtihad, if you find another ijtihad that is better than mine then follow that ijtihad".
