The Story of Abraham Destroying Idols

The Story of Abraham Destroying Idols

The Babylonian Place of Worship at that time was empty. The Babylonians at that time were avoiding Abraham's illness. Unfortunately, Ibrahim at that time only pretended to be sick. He also pretended to be suffering from a contagious disease, so his people stayed away from him.

The vacancy of the Babylonian city became an opportunity for Ibrahim to launch his action. He entered a place of worship that was being abandoned by his people.

The place of worship is filled with many idols, from small, medium to large and even super large. Ibrahim saw so much food around the idol. The food seemed wasted.

He asked the idols.

"Whose food is this?"

"Who wants to eat it?"

He kept asking these questions. But no one answered.

He asked again, but in a slightly harsh tone.

"Who wants to eat all this food?"

Ibrahim's question with a loud tone was not answered.

Ibrahim also launched the action. He took out his ax and destroyed all the idols.

Once satisfied with destroying all the idols, Ibrahim then threw the ax he used to destroy the idols to the neck of the biggest idol.

Apparently, he had prepared everything thoroughly. He was ready if later the rulers of his people would imprison him.

What Abraham feared happened. The rulers of his people knew what Abraham had done to the idols. It prepares answers to predictable questions. He was ready to argue with the pagan rulers.

Ibrahim was visited and taken to court. He began to be bombarded with questions that cornered him. But it was easy for him to argue.

"Ibrahim, are you the one who destroyed our Gods?"

"I do not do anything? Take a look at that big idol. It is the big idol that destroys the small idols.”

"O Ibrahim, those idols can't do anything. It is impossible for him to destroy other idols while he cannot move."

The answer of his people backfired on him. It was easy for Ibrahim to reverse their words.

“Then why do you worship a statue that can do nothing?”

Ibrahim's question on this one made their mouths gag. They could do nothing but justify Ibrahim's words. But they are still covered by lust. They still did not want to believe in Allah even though their God had been 'slaughtered' by Abraham's undeniable arguments.
