The Story of the Dog and the Cloak of Majesty

The Story of the Dog and the Cloak of Majesty

One day, a man in a robe walked and crossed a village. Dervish. On the way, the dervish saw a shaggy dog approaching him. Without thinking the dervish hit him hard with his stick.

While neighing in pain, the dog ran towards the residence of a sage named Abu Said. Holding his injured leg, the dog demands justice from the rough treatment of a dervish.

Shortly thereafter, both of them were summoned. "Hey rude person! How can you treat a weak animal in that way. Can't you see the result of your actions has crippled his leg!?”, said the sage to the dervish.

"It's not my fault," insisted the dervish, "it's all his own fault. I did not necessarily hit him, but because he had soiled my favorite robe." he added.

"Is that true?" asked the wise man to the dog.

“Indeed, sir. I licked the dervish's robes.” replied the dog, “Because I saw how great and noble the dervish was in the robes he was wearing. As a noble, I assumed that I would be safe close to him. But my judgment turned out to be wrong.” he complained.

"If only I saw him dressed like an ordinary person, of course I would not approach him. My mistake was actually to assume that the appearance of this person who appears to have majesty denotes security.” said the dog.

"Then, what kind of justice do you want?" asked the wise man to the dog.

“If master wants to punish him, please take off from him the regal robes he is wearing. From clothes that only fit to be worn by holy people”
